I'm sure you can guess what happened, but I'll throw in a story to go with it.
Me and some buddies had gone down to Panama City to do a little fishing. After the fishing trip, we stopped at lake Eufaula to flush out the salt water. One of my favorite ways of doing this is a few 360's and of course a couple of subs. When returning to the boat dock I was a little surprised when I put it in reverse and it lunged forward and to the left. After loading the boat with the engines off, I realize the my right reverse was somewhere at the bottom of the lake. I haven't been back out since.
I was wondering if anybody on here has a used reverse gate or knows where I can get one. I checked with World of Powersports and it looks like I can order a new gate and base for about $200. I'm just trying to look at all my options.
Does anybody know if you can replace the plastic buckets with the metal ones the Mercs have or with some aftermarket ones?
Thanks for your help,
Beau

Noticing that you said yours were plastic I have a question. I have heard a lot about the reverse gate having problems breaking. Is this a plastic reverse gate problem or the cast gates? To be honest I assumed all the gates were metal instead of plastic.

I haven't heard of any metal gates breaking. All the early twin rotax engines had the plastic gates. I'm not sure when they switched over. I know that the plastic gates are bad about breaking if you do sub moves or any moves where you shift into reverse while moving forward. Again, I don't think the metal gates have that problem. I think if you look through your manual, they recommend you to do the sub manuver for emergency stops. That's why I would like to just swap my plastic buckets out for metal.

Here's my broken gate. I have a new gate and base on order from JOA marina. They were the cheapest I could find, and just happen to be right down the road from my house.

It's all fixed up now. Pretty easy repair, but I think I'll cut back my subs a little bit. According to my wife the only problem now is one of them is black and the other is that faded out grayish color. I told her it gives it character
