I have been having problems with my port side mobile grate since I bought my boat last year. The rod that moves the grate down for the weedless system was bent that led to other problems and I kept getting stuff up to the propeller. Yesterday I had something stuck in the propeller again and looked down and the grate was GONE! I would really like to replace the mobile grate with a fixed grate, maybe from one of the later model seadoo's once they went to fixed grates in 2007. Does anyone have any advice on this? It would be welcomed. I believe I can do it I'm just not sure where to connect the grate and where the screws would come through in the engine compartment. I am hopeful that someone on the forums has some experience with this. Thanks.

I personally prefer the "mobile grate" since it provides an immediate way to clear debris from the intake when things get sucked in.
My '98 Challenger has this feature, where my '12 Challenger does not. I'm not very familiar with your waters, but the weedless system has been invaluable in the debri filled lake I frequent.
With that being said, I would look into replacing the damaged rod and staying with the grate that opens.
I'm confident the replacement cost of the retractable rod is better than chancing constant impeller damage.
