Hi all,

 

Picked up a 2011 Challenger SE and have a question:  is there an easy way to confirm I have the 255 HP engine?  I know that seems silly but I need piece of mind as I bought the boat assuming the seller wasn't BSing me. 

 

Also, have read varying accounts on speed.  Right now I am getting about 45 with 4 people and a full tank.  I can probably get about 47, just haven't let it run that long as I am still getting to know our lake.

 

Finally, my wife is concerned about the high-pitched 'whine' the engine has.  We have never owned a jet/rotary/supercharged motor so I am wondering what the noise might be.  It sounds like it should be there so not concerned.

You didn't specify which challenger model you have. I'm assuming you have the 180 SE model. If you open the rear access door (battery side), and look on top, if the label reads 190 kWh, then you have the 255 HP engine.
I have the 2012 180 SE. My top speed is 48 MPH. I can hit 49 MPH by myself, low fuel, and a little choppy water conditions.
The noise your hearing is normal. These boats are poorly insulated for the engine noise they make. Otherwise, I'm still very happy with mine.

Thanks, yes, I have the 180 SE.  I'll check that out tomorrow.
