Just got back from another weekend out on the lake and had a question about the throttle. I have a 97 speedster and it seems to run flawlessly since the new battery and plugs. I'm not sure how to ask this, but when I'm running around the lake at about 4500 to 5000 rpm's and slam on the throttles it takes off and picks up speed real fast up to about 7500 rpm's I think. But the question is when I pull back on the throttles there is no change in rpm's or speed for almost a quater of the movement of the sticks, it's only when I get back to half throttle or 3/4 throttle that it starts dropping back off and slowing down. Should I be getting a change in speed and rpm's all the way through the throttle positions, or was that as good as it gets? Just seems like there was alot of throttle movement on the top end without and change in the performance. Hope that made sense. Thanks for any help.

If this is not a common thing with this model/year. The I would say it is a simple adjustment. Do you have a manual?

its not that different to mine - if it bothers you i would lube the cables at the motor end and the throttle end and see if that makes a difference, if not, there maybe a little slack in the cables, its not uncommon for them to stretch a little, but hey as long as your making your max rpm's at wot - why worry?

Thanks for the help so far, I may take a look at the cables over the winter and see if I can tell anything about them. I am happy with the speed and I do seem to be getting max rpm's, I was more or less just curious if I should be getting any response in that last little bit of throttle change, but I think I will leave well enough alone, thanks again for the help.

It sounds like throttle cable slack, or binding of the cables in the cable casings. I'd lube cables first. When you've got the throttle/shifter/VTS control out on the side of the boat, try operating the throttle and watch the cables - they should not bind, they should slide smoothly. Good luck.
