We just purchased our 2005 speedster 200/370hp about a month ago. We've only had it on the water a handful of times. Just wondering if anyone else found the ride to be really rough? We are a family of 4 with 2 little ones, so topping out speed isn't an option with the kiddos on board. Plus, it freaks me out (yes I'm the wife ). We purchased the speedster because we liked the jet engine safety with our girls. Maybe this was a bad family boat choice?

The Speedster is not really a family boat. However, you can try installing trm tabs, so that you get to bow of the boat to cut the chop or waves better...In any jet boat , or for that matter, any boat less than 20 feet, going 35 + MPH will be somewhat of a rough ride, unless the seas / lakes are oily flat!

The Speedster is not really a family boat. However, you can try installing trm tabs, so that you get to bow of the boat to cut the chop or waves better...In any jet boat , or for that matter, any boat less than 20 feet, going 35 + MPH will be somewhat of a rough ride, unless the seas / lakes are oily flat!

Gotta agree with Rickster. ANY 20 foot or less boat, Seadoo or not, will ride like a go-cart unless you can trim it properly.The correct choice would have been a Utopia or Islandia for more "famiy" fun.

Well cr*p! What do we do now? My girls don't really mind the rough ride as much as we do. It scares me and annoys my husband. How do you guys ride your speedster when you're on the water?

Well cr*p! What do we do now? My girls don't really mind the rough ride as much as we do. It scares me and annoys my husband. How do you guys ride your speedster when you're on the water?

What to do now? Premedicate...... Seriously, you can still enjoy your ride. Experiment with distributing your load evenly, or check into tabs for your boat.
Of course, calm water makes all the difference too.

When I took my boat out with the dealer for our "sea trial" on the lake, it was like glass. If I had gone out when there where white caps, I would not have bought the boat. I will say that when I go out with my buddies, the ride is ok because they are use to waverunner/seadoo's. thus you can go faster. But with the wife and our little one, with any real chop, cannot go over 25 mph. I thought with a 20 degree deadrise, I thought it would ride better.

It's a matter of trim and weight distribution. I've taken my Utopia on 4 foot chop (yes, with white caps) and have travelled for 28 miles each way, with the family, averaging 25 MPH. No hard bumps, at least constant bumps. Of course, I have a trim tab and a 40 gallon freshwater tank installed in the center / front. The water's added weight and tab enable the bow to get down and take the hit up front, so you don't feel it. Of course, after these kinds of outings, I spend 1 hour checking and tightening nuts & bolts!!! No gelcoat issues so far...

if you are going out in choppy seas - you are going to get a rough ride - i had a 36 foot searay which at 5 tonnes and twin 9.2 mercs still bounced around and slammed on a 20 degree deadrise with trim tabs

i appreciate that it can be uncomfortable - but hey - boating with a planning hull in a choppy sea will be uncomfortable

the answer is a semi displacement hull or a deep v hull and about 12knots max!

the speedster is a fab boat and i am sure you will have lots of fun in it - just go out when its flat - i do

Agreed. When I say no hard bumps, I mean no "ouch!!!" Still, yes, at choppy seas you feel it, and more so in our jet boats, since you are sitting down. By the way, the Utopia does have a Deep V, or kind of...
