#32301 Trailer Upgrades
Posted by FJHIII on 27 September 2011 - 07:35 PM
To my surprise, the trailer did not include Bearing Buddies and the Calipers are very prone to severe rusting.
I strongly urge you to install Bearing Buddies and upgrade the Calipers.
After 6 months of use, my trailer started having some problems. It started with some grease oozing out of one tire. The tire was extremely hot. I had the bearing packed, but it appears that the real issue was the water getting in the cap that comes with the Sea Doo trailer. Basically, this trailer is not meant to go into the water!
Shortly after the bearing issue, I had more grease oozing out of the same wheel. It ended up that the brake (I am calling it the Caliper) was rusted in the closed position, meaning that I was driving with the brake on the trailer! It appears that the Caliper is made from a material that is very prone to rusting, I believe it is called, "Cast". I was advised to use the Aluminium Calipers in hope that they stand up to the Salt Water more.
I know that I use my boat a lot and it is all in Salt Water, but I am disappointed that low quality products were used for my trailer. I think this is a safety issue and I urge everyone to take a minute to check their trailers before towing.

#27280 2011 Trailer Question
Posted by FJHIII on 12 September 2011 - 04:23 PM
Sounds like your wheel bearing over-heated, not enough grease packed in there most likely. If you are lucky you can repack the bearing and all should be well. Worst case you will have to replace the bearing if it was damaged and then repack.
If you have to replace the bearing, I would recommend looking into Bearing Buddy.

Also I would recommend getting some bearing covers.

Ouch! Ok, I just called a local shop and I am going to take it to them for the work.
FYI- I dropped my boat off at Hydro-Turf this morning, I have a great pattern going on the swim step. The good news is that other 2011 210 owners will now have a template available at Hydro-Turf. They are only 15 minutes from my house.

#27263 2011 Trailer Question
Posted by FJHIII on 12 September 2011 - 10:56 AM
I am going to do some research tonight, but I thought that I would post up the question for you guys.
I towed my boat today and when I reached my destination, I smelt something burning. Then a cap in the center of the wheel popped off a bit and red paste started coming out. Do you know what the problem can be?
I am hoping that I only need to grease the tire.

I am waiting for my second daughter to be born, due date is 9/30/11. I am looking forward to going fishing again. Our California Lobster Season starts in October, I am going to be doing a lot of night time driving and freediving off of the California coast.
