Are the tines on these grates still breaking off? If so what grate should I replace this with. I have read so many bad things about busted tines. Have they fixed this in 2004?

I crawled under my 2004 Speedster 160 with the 240EFI today. I noticed it had the 6 tine intake (hydrosurge).

First of all, I am pretty certain that it was somewhere around 2000/2001 they had the problems with the tines breaking off and not much after that. I am alomost positive about that but you can find more on this at Jetboating.net.
Secondly, I too have the Hydrosurge and I am constantly questioning whether I should change it or not. So far, I have chose not too......for a few reasons. I drive in a few different lakes one of which is weedy, the Hydrosurge takes care of this. I don't want to climb into the water (not even once) to unclog a fixed grate due to clogging. With my luck it will be near winter and the water would be freezing!!! No way!!! I do not go near rocks and if I do...I make sure not to go above idle....= very little water intake....watch it yourself and see. The possibility exists that I still may change it.....but I don't believe everyone who has one ends up with issues or they would not keep putting it on the boat.
ONLY my .02 and you should read up on this more to make your decision.

It does work well as I ingested some weeds the other day and could not get my boat on plane. Pull out the manual and did the hard left turn and kill the engine routine and it worked perfectly! Sure beats gettin out of the boat while in the water! I will stick with them unless I hear different.
