I just bought a brand new 230 wake and the first thing I noticed was how badly the tower shakes from side to side at high speeds. Even if you are cruising around 25 mph it still wobbles if you hit any chop or make any turns..up into the 30's and 40's it sways side to side violently and forces me to slow the speed for fear of something breaking.

I took it back to the dealer to have them tighten everything but I'm pretty nervous about it. I'm hopeful this is not a flawed design by sea doo ... I know there is not a whole lot of structual support for these towers but my buddy's tower doesn't shake at all.

Anyone have a tower? does it ever shake? Is there an inexpensive fix to this?

I wouln't think it is suppose to shake that, keeps us posted on what your dealer finds. It seems to me that something is loose that needs to be tightened/secured.

After hauling my boat all the way back to the dealer they told me that one of the bolts was loose. picked up the boat Friday and headed to the lake...nothing has changed. It still shakes violently and really takes away from the boat. My passangers are actually scared that the tower is going to break off and hit them when I go over 25. I'll enjoy the 230 wake this summer and next but will probably sell after that for a Mastercraft, Malibu, or Supra ... I'll stick to jet ski's if buying Sea Doo in the future. The dealer acts like it's no big deal. Service dept says it will have "some shake"

I say they're wrong ... the towers do not shake on other wakeboard boats from what I hear. I've had the boat 2 weeks and the driver window would not go up, the driver radio controls are out, and the bilge pump is not working. What a headache.

The tower is supposed to add to the boat - not take away. I'm assuming this is poor design from Sea-Doo. Does anyone else have the 230 wake that can comment on the tower's stability?

UPDATE:
So far, every person that has been on my boat immediately comments on how bad the tower shakes (15 different people approximately). I took it back to the dealer on Monday in hopes they will find a better solution to this problem. It's now Thursday and I haven't heard anything so I'm still waiting to find out what's going on (one of the engines isn't working properliy either).

I'll keep everyone posted.

Just saw your concerns about your tower.
Just purchased same wake with the 510hp package.I previously had the 200 wake with the same tower problem.Seems to be no difference with the 230.I did however figure a way to stiffen the tower.I loosened and stripped out the lower arms to find that the backing plates were of a 4 mil alluminium plate .I replaced those with 10mm plate(the front and rear )and removed the rubber backing.Got me some sika flex(white)and used that instead.She still moves a bit but much better.
Still not too happy so I might weld a surface plate to the front arms,giving it a larger area and put a couple layers of glass fibre to that also.

My 2006 SeaDoo Sportster SCIC w/ tower did the same thing,
I tried to tighten it as best I could but it always pissed me off.
I just got the new 2010 Speedster 200 and chose not get the
tower with it for that very reason, and I don't miss the tower
shakin at all... must be a SeaDoo thing.

My 2005 215 SCIC tower has always shook and now has cracks in the welds. Has anyone else found tower cracks. This is a seedoo tower

This would be the first time I have heard of the welds cracking, do you have any pictures you can post up?

I own a 2005 Speedster 200 with a wake tower. It also shook from side to side in chop and started cracking at the welds. The tower eventually completely broke at the welds on the rear supports and came crashing down on son and I. I discovered there was a recall on the tower and Seadoo replaced it with a new much sturdier design. No shaking what so ever now. I suggest going to Seadoo's website and looking under the recall notices. This recall goes back to 2004 models on the Speedsters and may apply to other models.

No the tower should not wobble or shake. Be very carefull ecspecially when towing someone. I work for Star One Wake, we manufacture towers here in the US and I have talked to a few people who have had towers snap on them and it is not pretty. If you are worried at all, I would put a new tower on it or have the manufaturer do it. Better safe then sorry.

I have also bought the Wake 230 in 2009 and it's always been shaking, I tight it every time I go out but it is very uncomfortable. Lately the gel coat near front legs of the tower started cracking, so I went to the dealer and he told me that it is design problem and that's why sea-doo has changed the tower design for 2010 and 2011. I know some towers that have broken also injuring the passengers.
I tried to buy the replacement hardware installation kit, but sea-doo has discontinued it.
The only solution I received was to remove the tower or replace it with the new tower 2010 or 2011 design at my own expense.

same here ... it cracked my fiberglass ... seadoo paid for the repairs
